Sixth Grade: Connecting Learning to a Deepening Consciousness

Sixth-grade students are entering the self-consciousness of puberty and adolescence, which are accompanied by the onset of a new kind of thinking. They are connecting their inner experiences and dialogue with the outer world. Waldorf teachers present a curriculum that focuses on cause and effect, asking students to observe carefully before jumping to conclusions.

In history, we trace the demise of ancient empires. Students study civil engineering through art, law, city culture, inventions, and the technological innovations of Ancient Greece and Rome. They explore causality through history and the beginning of the dialectical principle.

Sixth Graders explore the geography of new regions and study the lifestyles of others, including the biographies of individuals who have made an impact on our world. Science delves deeply into botany, geology, astronomy, and physics. As part of our specialized middle-school math program, students receive weekly math skills classes.
